Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN)

Partnering our school with big businesses

Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) is a leadership and mentoring program aimed at broading students horizons and preparing them for future success. 

In the past students have been mentored by executive professionals from Optus, Commonwealth Bank, Allen & Overy Law, KPMG, Hall & Wilcox Law Ernst & Young, Gilbert & Tobin, National Broadband Network, and Navitas international.

Accelerate 

Accelerate is a 3 year program designed for year 10 students to develop their leadership and resilience, and to start thinking about their future pathways. Over 2 sessions, this program provides students with one to one mentoring, offering financial scholarships for disadvantaged students. The mentors will continue to check in with students throughout the rest of high school and in thier first year of tertiary education.

Aspirations 

Aspiration is a mentoring program for Year 11 students to broaden their awareness of career options and help them make informed decisions about their choices and pathways beyond school. Students will work on improving their problem-solving and critical thinking skills, relevant to any furture endeavours.

Entrepreneurs Unearthed 

The program aims to unearth, inspire and cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs. Selected ABCN students explore what it means to have an entrepreneurial mindset and will be able to learn first hand from inspiring entrepreneurs about their challenges developing an idea and/or businesses.

Focus I and II 

The Focus and Focus II program is a year 11 female empowerment program that helps students build the essential leadership skills they need to engage in a successful, meaningful career. Female executives mentor the students in small groups to develop their skills and build their confidence, encouraging them to aspire to senior roles in business and the community.

Future Thinkers

The Future Thinkers program is for year 9 and 10 students. Over a one-day session, students will work with mentors, developing thier creative and innoative problem-solving skills through the process of design thinking.

Innovate 

Innovate is a mentoring program designed to encourage the uptake of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects in Year 7. It aims to build confidence and learning in these areas as well as the students’ understanding and knowledge of STEM careers. The program is structured over five sessions and involves small groups of 4–5 students working with two mentors.

Interview skills (i2i) Workshop 

A one-day program designed to equip students with necessary, practical skills needed to engage in employment options beyond school. This workshop provide students the opportunity to experience realistic interview scenarios in a corporate environment. It enables students to test and practice the theory they learn at school by working with a mentor who is able to provide direct and relevant feedback and advice based on their own job interview experiences.

Interview to Impress (i2i) Workshop 

A sales training program run by Australia’s leading telecommunication service provider Optus Network. This is a structured group mentoring program designed for Year 10, 11 and 12 students to broaden their awareness of various work options and help them make informed decisions about their choices, build leadership and communication skills.

Leaders of Tomorrow with AMEX

The Leaders of Tomorrow program is designed for year 11 aspiring student leaders to develop leadership skills and engage with senior and emerging leaders within American Express.  The program consists of two facilitated workshops to be held at the American Express corporate offices (Sydney CBD). Students will participate in group activities and discussions with business leaders from American Express who will share their career stories and their leadership knowledge and experience.

STEM In Accenture 

This Accenture initiative encourages junior female students to explore their options for future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The one-day program aims to help students to make informed decisions about studying STEM subjects in school and university.
