Vocational Education and Training (VET)

We offer students the opportunity to study Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at school through TAFE New South Wales.

Accreditation

All VET courses are delivered by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet national standards and have the relevant qualification and units of competency on their scope of registration.

For students in Years 9 to 12, VET is ‘dual accredited’. Students receive recognition towards their school qualification (Record of School Achievement or HSC), as well as a nationally recognised VET qualification. More information on the Statement of Attainment can be found on the NSW Department of Education's VET Qualification website.

Assessments of students

Students in these courses work to develop the competencies, skills, and knowledge described by each unit of competency assessed.  To be assessed as competent, the student must demonstrate to a qualified assessor that they can effectively carry out tasks to industry standard.  Students will be progressively assessed as 'competent' or 'not yet competent' in individual units of competency, which is signed off by the assessor.

Some VET courses include an HSC examination, which provides the opportunity for students to have this HSC examination mark contribute towards the calculation of their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

Retail Services
Students study customer service, teamwork, stock control, designing and creating visual displays, using cash registers, scanners, computers and telephone systems.
Hospitality Food and Beverage
Students learn skills to work in the hospitality industry including providing a high level of customer service, preparing menus, managing resources, preparing food, cooking and serving a number of dishes and preparing beverages.
Information and Digital Technology
Studying Information and Digital Technology provides students with experience in designing web pages, supporting computer users, networking computers and finding solutions to software problems.

Assessments

Students have a number of formal assessments throughout their schooling. We provide detailed information to students about what we expect from them and how their work will be assessed.

Assessments

Subject selection
