The performing arts

Our school is passionately devoted to enriching our students culturally, artistically and creatively through performance opportunities

Drama

Drama at St Johns Park High school fosters, nurtures and extends students’ natural talents and artistic expression. Drama is an important means of understanding, appreciating, exploring and communicating values, traditions, attitudes, beliefs and their consequences. Students work in a collaborative and cooperative learning environment to develop a range of skills, self-confidence and self-esteem. Students are encouraged embrace values and skills such as diligence, dedication, effort, co-operation, collaboration and commitment to create exciting and relevant pieces of theatre.

Each year the senior students produce a Senior Performance Evening. The Year 11 Drama class are responsible for all the production elements including poster and promotion, costume design, set design, sound design and stage management. The class are also required to start a theatre company for this production.

Year 12 Drama present their Group Projects during the Senior Performance Evening. These Group Projects are written and directed by our Year 12 Drama students as part of their HSC course.

Music

Music caters both beginner and advanced students, allowing students to experiment with a variety of musical instruments. During the course, students will enrich their understanding about music history as well as gain practical experience. Students will also participate in the Music PBL, where they will  create an original piece which reflects real-world problems. If students are passionate about choosing Music as one of their elective in senior years, they will get the opportunity to express their talents by performing their own original piece at our annual Music Showcase.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts provides opportunities for students to enjoy the making and studying of art. They learn to investigate and respond to a wide range of artists and artworks in artmaking, critical and historical studies, enhancing their understanding of Visual Art’s place in the world. Students experience a range of media and techniques of traditional art making practices, such as painting and drawing, printmaking, ceramics and computer generated artworks.

Student artworks are celebrated and displayed at school functions and in the wider community. The school proudly supported Greenfield Shopping Village with the painting of a mural to signify “Change”. The mural was designed and painted by Year 10 Visual Arts students.
